The new Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority (GSA) Prof.Ransford Gyampo engaged Freight Forwarders Associations at the premises of the Ghana Institute of Freight Forwarders in Tema. This is to strengthen collaboration and address key challenges in the sector.
During the lively interaction session, Prof. Gyampo emphasized the crucial role of freight forwarders in Ghana’s trade ecosystem and national development and highlighted on GSA’s commitment to ensuring conducive environment for all stakeholders to thrive.The Freight Forwarders, represented by the Committee of Freight Forwarders Associations (CoFFA) lamented on troubling concerns they face in the operations particularly with the Shipping Lines, relating but not limited to Arbitrary Charges, Weekend and Holiday Demurrage Charges, Undue Delays in processing refunds, Blocking of Agents and Inefficient release processes. These and other Port related issues the Forwarders encourage the new CEO should help resolve to ease trade facilitation and fairness, most especially to the final consumer.
Also highlighted was CoFFA’s strong commitment to contribute just to an efficient and robust implementation of the Shippers Authority Bill, now passed into law.
Lastly the President of the Ghana Institute of Freight Forwarders in person of Mr. Stephen Adjokatcher spoke on behalf of the freight forwarders assuring Prof. Ransford Gyampo and his GSA outfit of a 24/7 total support whenever needed. In response, Prof. Gyampo pledged members to help finding lasting solutions to their challenges together with all key stakeholders and thanked them for the warm reception.
The visit marks another step in the GSA’s broader agenda to enhance trade facilitation, promote fair shipping practices, and support businesses involved in Ghana’s import and export sector.
