The Ghana Institute of Freight Forwarders (GIFF) successfully held its 28th Annual General Meeting (AGM) from 28th to 29th November 2025 at the Eastern Premier Hotel, Koforidua, under the theme: “Digital Transformation in Freight Forwarding: Leveraging Technology for Enhanced Service Delivery.”
The two-day gathering brought together distinguished industry stakeholders, freight forwarding professionals, policymakers, regulatory institutions, and strategic partners to deliberate on the future of freight forwarding and the growing importance of digital innovation within Ghana’s logistics and trade ecosystem.
The AGM served as an important platform for discussions on modernizing freight forwarding operations through technology-driven systems aimed at improving efficiency, transparency, compliance, and service delivery across the sector.
In his address, the President of GIFF, Stephen Adjokatcher, emphasized the urgent need for the freight forwarding industry to embrace digital transformation in response to the evolving demands of global trade and logistics. He noted that the adoption of digital tools and automated systems remains essential to improving cargo clearance processes, reducing operational bottlenecks, and enhancing Ghana’s competitiveness within the international trading environment.
Delivering the keynote address, the Commissioner of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Brigadier General Glover Ashong Annan, commended GIFF for its continued collaboration and contribution toward customs reforms and trade facilitation in Ghana. He encouraged freight forwarders to align with the government’s 24-hour economy agenda and stressed the importance of professionalism, compliance, and integrity as customs operations continue to undergo digital transformation. He further noted that technology-driven systems have become central to efficient trade and modern cargo management.
The Institute also acknowledged the invaluable presence and support of representatives from government agencies, regulatory bodies, industry associations, development partners, and corporate organizations whose participation contributed significantly to the success of the AGM.
Participants at the meeting highlighted the need for continuous investment in digital infrastructure, training, cybersecurity, and innovation to enable freight forwarders to adapt effectively to emerging trends in international commerce and supply chain management.
Discussions during the AGM further reinforced the importance of collaboration between freight forwarders, customs authorities, port operators, and other stakeholders in creating an efficient, transparent, and globally competitive trade environment for Ghana.
